Closing the Creative Day

Evening Reflection

How we end a day is just as important as how we begin it. Today, I am ending my work session not by collapsing away from the desk, but by naming one thing I am excited to write tomorrow.

This is the “Hemingway trick”—stopping when you still know what happens next. It prevents the paralysis of the blank page in the morning. When you close the day with anticipation, your subconscious continues to work on the problem while you sleep. You wake up with the engine already warm.

Reflection prepares the ground for tomorrow. Take five minutes this evening to write down the one thing you are most excited to tackle when you return to your desk. It is a gift you are giving to your future self.

The Monroe Minute Write down one thing you’re excited to write or do tomorrow.

I don’t write to idealize love, but to explore it honestly, with emotional precision and depth.
