Content Advisory
How We Handle Potentially Sensitive Material
We publish fiction alongside material about writing, editing, and literature. The tone and level of detail vary across the site, but mature themes may appear anywhere. Some pages contain explicit sexual content. This page explains our approach to transparency and reader guidance.
Our Statement
We aim to give readers enough information to decide whether a page is right for them without reducing a work to a list of warnings or revealing important narrative developments. A content advisory identifies pages especially likely to contain explicit or sensitive material. Its absence does not mean that a page is free from mature themes or suitable for minors.
What You May Encounter
- Explicit or graphic sexual content and adult themes in fiction
- Discussion and analysis of erotica, sexuality, desire, consent, and relationships
- Depictions or discussion of violence, war, injury, coercion, or abuse
- Discussion of discrimination, slurs, or biased language in historical texts
- Mental health, self-harm, grief, or trauma in literary analysis
- Strong or offensive language, including within quotations
- Historical material containing outdated or harmful language, themes, or perspectives
- AI-assisted or archival imagery that may depict distressing scenes
Age Guidance
This site is intended for readers aged 18 and older. Content advisory labels highlight some adult or sensitive material, but they are not a complete rating system. Educators, parents, and guardians should review individual pages before sharing any site content with younger readers.
Editorial Standards and Moderation
- Advisory-marked pages display a visible badge and a notice near the beginning of the page.
- Editorial and historical discussions aim to provide relevant context for sensitive material.
- We err on the side of caution when applying advisories, but they cannot anticipate every reader’s needs.
- We do not host public comments. To report issues or suggest improvements, use our Contact page.
