The Clothes You Think Best In
Creative Uniforms
We often underestimate the psychological impact of what we wear when we work. Today, I put on my usual ‘archive uniform’—a specific linen shirt and trousers that have become synonymous with focus. It is not about fashion; it is about priming the mind.
When you wear the same thing to do the same work, you remove a layer of decision fatigue from your morning. But more importantly, you create a sensory ‘anchor.’ When I feel the weight of this specific fabric, my brain knows that the time for social interaction or domestic chores is over. It is time for the page.
Your creative uniform doesn’t have to be formal, but it should be intentional. It should be something that makes you feel most like the version of yourself that creates. It is a costume for the role you are playing that day. Identify the clothes that make you feel most like yourself, and let them be the signal that the work has begun.
