The Clutter of Choice

Digital Quiet

I spent ten minutes this morning looking for a “productivity” app, only to realize that the search itself was the ultimate distraction. We live in an era of digital abundance, where there is a tool for every possible niche of our creative lives.

But I have found that abundance is often a form of clutter. When we have too many ways to organize a thought, we spend more time organizing than thinking. I have returned to a single, plain text file and a physical notebook. By limiting my choices, I have freed my mind to actually engage with the work. The simplest tool is usually the most honest one.
