The Creative Uniform

Reducing Decision Fatigue

I have reached a point where I no longer wish to spend mental currency on my attire. I have adopted what I call a “creative uniform”—a small collection of well-made, comfortable pieces that I can reach for without thought.

Every decision we make, no matter how small, depletes a tiny portion of our daily cognitive reserve. By standardizing my morning—wearing the same charcoal sweater, drinking the same tea—I am “saving” that energy for the difficult work of the manuscript. Minimalism isn’t just about owning less; it’s about making space for the things that require our most rigorous attention.
