The Studio as a Sanctuary
Defending the Workspace
Today, I closed my door and didn’t open it until the sun had moved across the entire length of the desk. We often treat our workspaces as flexible zones—places where we answer emails, take calls, and occasionally write.
But the mind needs a sanctuary. It needs a physical space that it associates only with the deep work of creation. When you enter that space, you should feel a shift in your internal atmospheric pressure. If your desk is a place where the world can always reach you, you will never truly leave the world behind. Defend the boundary.
The Monroe Minute
Clear your workspace of anything that reminds you of “administrative” life (bills, to-do lists, chargers). Leave only the work.
Until the next page,
