The Weight of the Unwritten
Empty Space
I sat at my desk this morning for twenty minutes before the first drop of ink touched the paper. There is a specific kind of gravity in a new notebook—a physical weight that has nothing to do with the cardstock and everything to do with accountability.
To many, the blank page is a void to be feared or filled as quickly as possible. To me, it is a sanctuary. It is the only moment in the creative process where every possibility still exists, untouched by the inevitable compromises of language. By sitting with the emptiness, I am not wasting time; I am allowing the noise of the world to settle so that the work can begin from a place of silence rather than reaction.
The Monroe Minute
Open a notebook to a blank page. Sit with it for three minutes without writing. Feel the weight of the potential.
Until the next page,
